As we finish the Rideau Canal, happy but sad it was an amazing trip. Here in Kingston we stop at Treasure Island Marina which is out of town as the harbor host recommended a diver to see if we had bent out props. Good new props and shafts are perfect. Bad new our port transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced. We thought about going back to the USA across the 1000 islands or just to baby until we are back in Michigan. Our choice was Michigan. On to the Trent Severn!!!!!.

I have mentioned before that all but 2 of the locks on the Rideau are manual, several of the bridges are also manual. Push Bridges, they operate on a round track and the bridge or lock master pushes it around and clears the canal. Who would have ever thought?

The Rideau Lakes are beautiful! scattered islands with both old and new cottages. If you ever wanted to get out of the Florida Summer heat I vote Canada and the lakes here! We pulled into Jones Falls Lock # 39 with a tour bus of people wanting to watch and talk to us.

They also have a live blacksmith shop that does make parts for the locks and a few things to purchase. Such a wonderful surprise to find here!.

Our next stop was Chaffey's Lock. A beautiful spot with an old resort "The Opinicon" picture Dirty Dancing " no one put's baby in the corner" that type of old resort. Started in the 1800's and gone through several owners. The couple that own's it now she grew up in the area and always loved the resort. She married the owner of Shopify a online retail platform. They have totally remodeled the resort and it is beautiful. We ate at the bar and of course Ron had ice cream. On our way again heading towards Kingston.

The next night July 15, we stayed at Smith Falls, met us with several other looper boats, Our first night with power for awhile so that was a big plus. Music in the park across the canal didn't have to leave the boat. We stopped for a walk around town and Gelato for Breakfast in Merrickville. Cute town with many one of a kind shops. Picked up a great pre-made Beef Bourguignon from a lady in Kingston that delivers them frozen. OMG!!! what a feast the night we decided to have that sitting on a wall with the generator running.

The first night out of Ottawa we stayed at the Nicholson lock no power but a beautiful view peaceful and clean We left Ottawa with a partner boat Zendu This blog will take us from Ottawa to Kingston along the Rideau waterway 125 Miles and 49 locks.
