2 Locks and 2 swing bridges and a 4 hour ride at about 4-5 MPH. The swamp was beautiful and if you don't know the history of the Dismal Swamp George Washington was part of a group that financed the Dismal Swamp Canal in 1790. It was used in the Civil War to transport supplies and men. Later all the cedar trees were harvested for boat building. We were surprised that a road ran along side the swamp the entire way. Didn't pass anyone during the entire trip and entered the swamp as the only boat in the 11:00 lock opening.

Saw turtles and that was about it for wild life, I was hoping for a bear at a distance! Beautiful and peaceful! We rejoined the ICW at mile 7 and went south to mile 12 and are at the Atlantic Yacht Basin for our repairs. We will move to the Sheraton at Waterside in Norfolk VA tomorrow for the AGLCA Meeting. Looking forward to meeting other loopers!
